Gemma and Adam Lee
Allergy Awareness Campaigners

Gemma and Adam became Allergy Awareness campaigners following the tragic loss of their daughter Megan in 2017, due to a preventable allergic reaction.
They advocate for improved food safety and allergy education across schools, businesses, and government. And work with regulators and policymakers to drive change and accountability in the food sector. Their efforts honour Megan’s legacy and aim to prevent future allergy-related deaths.
More about their Campaigning Work:
Gemma and Adam's advocacy began in the most tragic of circumstances. On 1st January 2017, their 15-year-old daughter, Megan Lee, passed away after suffering a severe allergic reaction to a takeaway meal. Despite Megan clearly communicating her allergies when ordering, the business failed to follow basic food hygiene practices or implement effective allergy management procedures.
Megan’s death was a preventable tragedy - one caused by a lack of knowledge, awareness, and responsibility in food preparation. In the aftermath, Gemma and Adam channelled their grief into action, determined to prevent other families from experiencing such devastating loss.
Through their campaigning, they have become prominent voices in the national conversation around food safety and allergy awareness. They work with schools, businesses, regulators, and policymakers to drive improvements in allergy education, highlight the importance of robust food safety practices, and ensure greater accountability across the food sector.
Their efforts honour Megan’s memory by turning personal tragedy into a powerful force for change. Every talk they deliver, every campaign they support, and every organisation they work alongside carries a clear message: with the right awareness, training, and responsibility, allergy-related deaths are preventable.
Gemma and Adam Lee remain committed to making lasting change so that no other family has to endure the heartbreak they have faced. Through their continued advocacy, Megan’s legacy lives on as a catalyst for greater awareness, stronger standards, and safer futures for people living with allergies.
