Vice Presidents shape our Brexit strategy
³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ's strategy for Brexit is to bring together those with the greatest understanding and expertise - to help inform and guide the trading standards profession through the negotiations and realise a vision for Brexit that maximises the opportunities and minimises the threats to consumer protection.
In shaping this Vision our first step was to consult our influential and experienced ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ Vice Presidents.
On the 10 May 2017 they met - fittingly at Europe House in London - for an event to discuss and formulate the strategic aims of ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ on Brexit. After presentations and broad discussions the following initial principles were agreed: Â
- Consumer protection and the interests of responsible businesses should be at the heart of the trade deal negotiations over Brexit.
- ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ should advise Government and other key opinion formers on post Brexit regulatory direction in the area of trading standards law and practice including the support networks for business and consumers.
- ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ should support the achievement of a sound free trade agreement for the U.K. based on mutual recognition principles
- Working within the new Government's policy framework, ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ should examine and build on its capacity for influencing the policies of Brexit.
- The strategy for Brexit during the negotiations should focus on five key areas; Business, Consumers, Standards, European collaboration and regulators with shared interests.
